Presentation of the book Kreisky, Israel und die Juden. Ein Politiker und Visionär im Fokus der Weltgeschichte (Kreisky, Israel and the Jews. A politician and visionary in the spotlight of world history) with Dr. Daniel Aschheim (Jerusalem/Berlin)
Bruno Kreisky was admired, revered even, across all party divides in Austria. Not so in Israel: Here, he was seen as controversial, even as an enemy. Precisely because of his Jewish roots, his often harsh criticism of Israeli policy and his early support for the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) was held against him.
Dr. Daniel Aschheim, born in Jerusalem in 1988, is a historian and an Israeli diplomat. In his book, which he wrote as his dissertation at the Hebrew University, Aschheim paints a multifaceted picture of the statesman who brought the two-state solution into efforts to secure peace in the Middle East conflict.
